Abilities was founded in 2009 by Tami Johnson (founder/executive director) who's oldest son, Matthew, has Down Syndrome. She saw a need for a program for him after he graduated high school, and wanted to create Abilities to meet the needs for him, and others in the community.
Our non profit started as a thrift store, but quickly we realized that we needed to expand and provide medicaid waiver services, so we received our 501c3 to be able to do so.
"The mission of Abilities Richmond is to enable adults with disabilities opportunities to develop and discover themselves through art, life, social and work experiences"
